The story of Java & Bear

Being long time lovers of the German shepherd breed, we have been involved in breeding and raising two gentle, smart and well disciplined dogs, that we love dearly, we are proud to them call members of our family, here is their story.

Our Regular breeding female GSD (German Shepherd Dog) name is Oceanmist bit of java, also known as Java. The second member of our extended family is Bear; he is not registered but is very kind, gentle and handsome. We also have another member that we co-own; she is registered and is getting ready to be bred.

Java The Mother

Java is OFA certified as good. When we breed Java we try and choose males who are OFA certified, which means 3 different vet checks, with x-rays and a good rating.

We breed Java once a year, usually in the late winter or early spring. She is an excellent loving mother that is very protective of her pups and makes sure they are well groomed.
She doesn’t leave them for the first 2-3 days, we have water and feed in the nursery for her. For the first 3 weeks she leaves them long enough to do her business, get some attention from us and then eats and gets back to her motherly duties.

The pups are kept in the house for 4 weeks and then moved to our spacious kennel where Java stays with them 98% of the time for two weeks.

After 6 weeks staying with them 80% of the time, she starts to wean the pups around 6 weeks. The pups have started their diet of solid food at this time.

Getting the pups ready for the real world is achieved by introducing them to as many different sounds and experiences as possible, including taking them out for walks and introducing them to water, we have a brook on our property that allows us to go for a swim on a warm day and gets them use to the stimulation of the real world.

We believe that a healthy dog is what you as an owner deserves. Attention to detail is very important to us! All pups are de-wormed, our vet administrates their first needle, microchips and CKC registered.

It should be noted that Java and Bear are first and foremost house pets that we love dearly! We offer them comfort and freedom like any other member of the family with the exception of being on the furniture. They have their own comfy beds in the basement, where they enjoy the coolness from the summer heat and have warmth in the winter.

The German Shepherd Dog is a breed of large-sized dog that originated in Germany. German Shepherds origins date to 1899. As part of the Herding group, the German Shepherd is a working dog developed originally for herding sheep. Because of their strength, intelligence and abilities in obedience training they are often employed in police and military roles, in forces around the world. Due to their loyal and protective nature the German Shepherd is one of the most registered of breeds.
